Arthritis

Arthritis can affect any joint in the body. It develops when the cartilage that lines the bones, helping them to move easily in the joint, becomes damaged over time and causes friction when the bones move.

Several types of arthritis can affect the foot and ankle, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, big toe arthritis (hallux rigidus), midfoot arthritis and hindfoot arthritis.
