Limb Reconstruction

Limb reconstruction can be carried out to correct deformities including:

  • Congenital conditions (affecting children born with limb problems) including the need for limb lengthening or to correct lower limb deformity
  • Problems caused by previous injuries, including non-healing fractures, which can cause instability and affect blood supply to the bone, resulting in bone loss
  • A short amputation stump (residual limb), which can limit the type of prosthesis that can be fitted
  • Bone infection (osteomyelitis)

The aim of surgery is to help you achieve (or regain) as much movement and function in the affected limb as possible.
